While higher-than-average precipitation is forecasted for the Great Lakes region this winter, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Lincoln project much of central Illinois will see typical conditions over the next few months. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's winter forecast calls for the wetter weather. However, NWS meteorologist John Bumgardner says there's still a better chance the season will have normal conditions people are used to seeing. "With temperatures, there's an equal chance that we will have below or above normal temperatures," Bumgardner said.
